Music
Taught by
Chelsea Barnes
How it works:
All students attend this class, though are split into first-year and second-year groups for part of the time.
Class Description:
Voice class will concentrate on vocal technique, sight singing, harmony and learning music for the students to perform.
Vocal technique includes: work on pitch, vowel clarity, tone, blend, range and balancing out high and low registers so students can smoothly transition from low voice to high voice.
Sight singing is taught through the Kodaly approach--a kinesthetic way to learn. Also emphasized is how to hear intervals in a pentatonic scale and how to read those intervals on a staff in any key.
Learning harmony includes: how to find an alto or a tenor part, being able to hear the three notes in a basic major or minor triad, and being able to hear chord progressions.
Students will learn the performance music both by ear and by reading notes. The pieces will be polished in the areas of dynamics, blend, tone, pitch and how to look and act professionally on stage.
